Farewell, Friends

We’ve had a lot of fun over the last year and a half, but all good things must come to an end. Thank you to everyone who has been apart of this incredible journey with us ❤

Pink + Red: How to Rock Clashing Colors

ensembleofelan-03819

Hello lovelies!

Spring has officially sprung, and we are loving the fresh color combinations that are blooming this season.

As you can probably tell, one of our favorite color combos is pink + red.

ensembleofelan-03787

ensembleofelan-03542A year ago–hell, even a couple months ago–if you had asked either one of us what we thought about a pink and red outfit, we probably would have encouraged you go with either pink OR red and add some neutrals to keep your look balanced and not over-the-top. (Sorry, went into stylist mode for a second.)

But now, we are kind of loving looks that are over-the-top.

When paired together, pink and red clash in a way that’s somehow charming and delightful. Especially when it’s a red jumpsuit paired with a pink blazer or vice versa. (Can you believe we found every one of these pieces at Goodwill?!)

ensembleofelan-03464

If you want to try out this trend for yourself, our advice is to grab all of the pink and red pieces in your closet and lay them out on your bed

Try out different combinations of pieces and don’t get caught up in whether or not they match–they are not supposed to!

ensembleofelan-03653

If the clash bothers you too much, add another pink or red piece in a different shade (like Hannah’s beret).

It sounds counterintuitive to add yet another clashing piece, but having three clashing shades together can actually give you that cohesion you are looking for.

We would love to see some of your pink and red outfits, so please feel free tag us in them on Facebook or Instagram!

Damsel in This Dress

Go back in time and ask any of us at five years old where we wanted to be in twenty years,

I guarantee it would be right here.

Wearing a couture gown,

Modeling alongside a stallion

for a lavish photoshoot.

As we would have then,

we adorned ourselves with flowers,

And held hands as we smized

and slayed before the camera.

We felt glamorous and beautiful and powerful

Even as the wind whipped our faces and the mud soaked our shoes.

It didn’t matter.

We were exactly where we wanted to be.

Laughing. Loving. Creating.

Sabrina, Hannah, and Emily

Spring Break on Perdido Key: Recap & Recommendations

Inst-image

Hello lovelies!

Are you as excited as we are that spring is finally upon us?

Following the brutal winter we had here in Arkansas, we were ready to get a head-start on the warm weather, so we and our close friend, Brooke Rainwater Smith, decided to plan a girl’s trip to the beach in Perdido Key, Florida.

Even though two of the three of us have graduated from college and don’t even technically have a spring break anymore, we decided to embrace our youth and take our first-ever spring break beach trip.

Overall, it was an absolute blast—we ate pounds upon pounds of crab legs (except Sabrina because she would go into anaphylactic shock), sipped on bottomless mimosas, and danced at FloraBama like there was no tomorrow.

One of our favorite parts of the trip was the FOOD. If you are ever in the Perdido Key/Orange Beach area, you must check out Another Broken Egg Cafe.

Because Peach Cobbler Waffles. Fried Chicken Benedict. Southwestern Skillet Hash.

Need we say more?

We also had a grand ole time at The Wharf whilst window shopping, playing putt-putt golf, and riding the Ferris wheel— with frozen daiquiris in our hands at all times, of course. Several of the restaurants in this entertainment center even offer ‘penny cocktails’, where you can get a cocktail a day for literally a penny!

We must warn you, though, the beach was not nearly as warm as we expected it to be. In fact, we were only able to truly enjoy one day of sunshine during the three and a half days we were there.

But we did take full advantage of that one day by starting with beachside yoga in the morning (as relaxing as you would expect) and ending it with several hours of soaking up the sunshine, reading books, and sipping on hard lemonade.

This trip was an unforgettable bonding experience for all of us, and it was the break from reality we needed before we dive headfirst into Northwest Arkansas Fashion Week next week.

Xoxo,

Slarf, Bumpkin, & Petri

(Yup, those are our nicknames we gave each other on the trip. Can you guess who’s who?)

How to Reach Your (Maxi)mum Style Potential

ensembleofelan-5866The maxi dress is a tricky one to conquer. Sure, you can just throw one on with a pair of heels and be done with it, but if you style it the same way every time you wear it, you are going to grow tired of that dress (and we can’t have that!).

The key to unlocking the full potential of your favorite maxi dress is learning how to style it in multiple ways so that it doesn’t feel like you are wearing the exact same outfit over and over again. How, you ask?

ensembleofelan-6155

Cinch It With a Belt
A loose-fitting maxi dress is a staple you can always feel confident in, no matter if you are feeling fit as a fiddle or a little bloated.
For those times when you want to show off your rockin’ bod, cinch your dress with a trendy belt to accentuate your waistline.

ensembleofelan-5928

Add a Cozy Sweater

Layering on a sweater is one of our signature tips for making a dress feel like new, and this holds true for maxi dresses too!

Changing how the top of your dress looks makes that piece feel like a chic, brand-new maxi skirt.

ensembleofelan-6319

Make It Office-Friendly
Not sure how to style your maxi for your 9-5? It’s simple: add other pieces that you already wear to the office.
This can be a plaid blazer, a button-down layered underneath, or your favorite pumps.

ensembleofelan-2800

Top It Off With Great Accessories

People say, “I love a good dress because it’s already an entire outfit!”, but we believe an outfit is never truly complete without the perfect accessories.

If your maxi is a neutral color (or even if it’s not), liven it up with a velvet or faux fur crossbody bag plus a pair of statement ankle boots.

Happy One Year to E of E!

EnsembleProofs-088

On this day in 2017, we took a leap and published our first-ever blog post. Writing this one year later, I truly cannot believe where that blog has taken us. During that time, we created some truly meaningful content, met countless incredible people, hosted our first ever fashion show, launched our online store, and have now joined the team behind Romás by Linda Rowe Thomas, a world-renowned fashion designer right here in Little Rock.

Not every step of the way was easy—in fact, most of them weren’t. We spent almost an entire year working our asses off with little to show for it before everything started to fall into place.

But I would not trade one minute of it—good or bad–for the world because it has brought me to where I am today. To be honest, we may not be able to dedicate quite as much time to creating full blog posts for E of E this year with our other responsibilities, but we would rather do fewer, better posts than compromise on quality.

We are incredibly excited for all of the opportunities this year holds, and if you want to see even more of our adventures, head over to Instagram and follow @romasbylrt !

Happily Grey Inspired Street Style

Did you know that we almost didn’t start our blog on this day last year? Sabrina and I were both having doubts about it, and I remember Sabrina turning to me and saying that we just weren’t ready, that the website wasn’t just right, etc (she’s a bit of a perfectionist). I remember telling her that we will never be ready, but that it was time.

And man, I am so glad we started Ensemble of Elan.

From writing about the might of femininity in one of our first posts, “There’s Power in Pink & Polka Dots” (still one of my personal faves to this day) to discussing science and going green in “Science Not Silence,” I’ve poured my heart and soul into this blog, and it’s given back to me tenfold. It’s given me a voice, it’s given me endless opportunities in the fashion industry, but most of all, it’s given me an amazing family of creatives who share the same passion as I do.

Our one piece of advice to you–if you are trying to convince yourself to take the plunge and go after your dreams–is to just do it. You would be amazed at what you can accomplish in only a year. Even if you are afraid of wasting your time on something that may never come to fruition, just remember that that time will pass by regardless. It’s up to you how you use it.

We’ll leave you with some of our favorite quotes from blog posts past:

“If you do feel way out of your league or completely terrified that people are going to discover that you actually aren’t as intelligent or creative or whatever as people think you are, keep going. Someone (probably a lot of someones) saw something in you, even though you couldn’t see it yourself. Try to give yourself a little credit, and if that’s still difficult for you, remember it’s better to be humble and keep striving to better yourself than to think you are the most amazing person who has ever existed and stay exactly where you are.”- Half the Story

“To us, dress with purpose means to present yourself to the world with intention. Intention to freely express your true self. To empower yourself and inspire those around you. And to shine a light on the issues that are near to your heart.”

Dress With Purpose

“We’re encouraged to step out of preconceived notions for what is traditionally feminine in order to rise up the ladder, but I think in doing so we’re ignoring the fact that there’s a lot of power in femininity. There’s a lot of power in polka dots.”

There’s Power in Pink & Polka Dots

Winter Outfit Ideas That Are Anything But Dreary

Are you in a winter fashion rut? (Don’t fret, it happens to the best of us.)

By the time mid-January rolls around and you’ve exhausted the number of sweater and jeans combinations you can throw together, what on earth are you supposed to wear and feel amazing in?

We’ve got you.

ensembleofelan-2609

Throw in a Pop of Color

Many people tend to gravitate towards neutrals in the wintertime, but you don’t have to wait until spring to start rocking your favorite hues!

ensembleofelan-2079

Pull that brightly colored sweater out of your closet and wear it with pride.

Lavender is Pantone’s color of the year, so you might want to get a head start by wearing this shade before you start seeing it everywhere.

ensembleofelan-2201

Wear Something Metallic

Yeah, yeah, we know you’re wondering how we can consider an almost entirely gray outfit to be “fun”, but let us prove it to you.

ensembleofelan-1999

The key here is adding something metallic, like these sneakers.

The eye-catching metallic combined with the on-trend plaid trousers and an edgy beanie makes this look unconventionally exciting.

Rock Your Spring-iest Embroidery

Embroidery has been going strong for a while now, and it isn’t poised to slow down anytime soon.

ensembleofelan-2061

So, look forward to spring by wearing your favorite embroidered pieces now!

A pair of embroidered booties or an embroidered leather jacket adds a fresh touch to any outfit (and will remind you that spring isn’t far away!)

XOXO,

S & H
